No Front Porch Friday, porch-sitting video for me today, sisters. I have a nasty cold. Nasty as in my Kleenex supply is dwindling by the minute, and I’m pretty sure you could catch this awful mess just by watching me via video. But today, I do want to share an update with you about my mom.
If you watched Front Porch Friday a couple of weeks ago, you know that my mother was diagnosed with early stage colon cancer. So many of you left comments on that post letting me know of your prayers for her (which made me cry happy, grateful tears – and still does). Thank you, sisters, for interceding on her behalf.
Today, I have glorious news to report. God is answering our prayers. A recent PET scan revealed that the cancer has not spread to any of Mother’s other organs. It is limited to a single place in her colon. Hallelujah!
Additional tests revealed, however, that Mother is very anemic. For quite some time, she’s been experiencing dizzy spells which she assumed was caused by low blood pressure. So now, prior to her pending surgery, she is receiving iron infusions.
Mother’s surgery is scheduled for Monday, December 5th. They will remove a section of her colon, and (I believe) various lymph node samples which will be tested for cancerous cells. Looks like she will be in the hospital for 5-10 days (she says 5 tops 🙂 ).
My mom is no cupcake. Don’t let that soft, sweet picture (above) fool you. Yes, she is soft and sweet, but she’s also one strong, godly woman. She has perfect peace about all of this and complete and full confidence in the Lord. I am trusting God with her as well, but I would greatly appreciate your continued prayers for her in these specific ways:
- Pray that her red blood count and her physical strength will increase.
- Pray for her surgery, recovery, and complete healing.
- Pray that her lymph nodes will be clear from any cancer.
- Pray for my dad who loves and adores her.
Your prayers for my mom mean more to me than you will ever know. She lives about 6 hours away from me, and I will be travelling there a couple of days before her surgery, camping out at the hospital, and helping out as she recovers for as long as I’m needed. My sweet dad and four amazing brothers will be helping out, too. We are blessed beyond measure to have one another.
Well, time to get up from this computer and open a new box of Kleenex. Bless you for letting me share my heart with you today, and thanks especially for your love and prayers. It would be my privilege to pray for you, too, so please post your prayer request below.
Hope to see you on the porch soon, sisters. In the meantime, let’s pray for one other. I love y’all!
Your sister,
