  1. I’m another “Yankee” from South Jersey and also a Scottish girl! Really love your front porch talks! Today’s talk really hit home to me as I have been re-hashing past hurts, especially ones that happened to me in the church. Asking God for forgiveness, and to help me to forgive those who have hurt me, and also for the grace to begin to trust people again. I was burnt so bad that it has kept me at arms length from other people. Your message was spot on for me today. I know I’m missing out on God’s blessing by holding on to this hurt. Thanks for allowing God to minister through you. You are and have been a real blessing to my life!

  3. Hello Laurie, I live in Northern California, in a beautiful mountain town called Burney. This message spoke directly to my heart! You confirmed what the Lord has been speaking to me about a past offense that I no longer want to rehash and let ruin the joy of the Lord and Him being glorified in my life.

  4. Hi Laurie,

    Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know how much your “Front Porch Friday” series has blessed me! I am a local gal, right here in Pearland and a member of Sagemont and have had the opportunity to be in one of your Bible study classes back in the 90’s when you taught the Precept course on 1st John. That experience has continued to bless me even to this very day. You are such an inspiration and God has used you in such a powerful way. I’ve also had the opportunity to do “Beauty by the Book” a few years back and more recently “There is a Season”, which I studied on my own. I have been fighting cancer since 2010 and due to treatment schedules have had difficulty committing to a structered Bible study group, so have had to do my own thing. I can’t begin to tell you how much God blessed me through “There is a Season”. That study helped me through some of my hardest times and helped bring me so much closer in my walk with Christ. I look forward to your weekly videos! They are so uplifting and it’s always such a blessing to see your smiling face. Blessings, Trish Kolaski

  6. I saw you on Life Today earlier this week, and immediately checked out the website and signed up for the newsletter. Today was my first “front porch” session, and it really spoke to me. I am a new widow; 57 years old, and I just lost my husband of 37 years right before Christmas and am now learning to live alone and discovering my own personal relationship with the Lord. For most of our marriage, I rode on my husband’s coat tails, and didn’t really do what was necessary to have my very own relationship with the Lord, and I was constantly living in self pity. Everything you talked about today, I have experienced. What a blessing it is to now have that, and I appreciate this ministry as an encouragement during the week . Thank you, and I will be here next week too!

  7. What a wonderful message! I have been in that pit of self-pity. What has helped me is memorizing 1Corinthians 13:4-8 and Ephesians 4:25-32 and applying them to my life. What freedom I have felt! Thank you for your straight forward talks. I’m an Alabama girl!

  8. Hi Laurie!
    I’m Mimi from Maryland and I was waiting all week for your message. I was drawn to you since I found your devotional books. Last week when i received your email saying you were doing a front porch series, I thought wow I cant wait. I searched this morning early and didn’t see the video posted. It wasn’t until I came from meeting with a friend did I come back and check the website. Boy was I floored! I thought about my conversation with my friend today and realized that was me today! I thought about another conversation I had with someone else..um wow that was me too. Well NO MORE! I cant tell you how blessed I am by hearing this message. I do not want to quench the Holy Spirit..I want to grow and be pleasing to the Lord. I want God to be able to use me for His glory. When you were talking I felt you were talking directly to me. I was nodding in agreement with tears in my eyes as I realized that you were speaking truth directly into my spirit. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for allowing God to use you in this way. The most important thing that sticks out for me that I am taking away is hanging up on satan! No more! I am so excited and cant wait to hear the rest of this series.

  10. Greetings from snowy Maine! Laurie, thank you so much for your ministry. I just completed week 6 (in your There is a Season Bible study)- Rejoicing in Every Season, and couldn’t help but think of the woman’s Memoriam you showed and talked about in the video as I was listening to your message on self-pity. That woman so full of joy…it radiated right off the newspaper page and through the video! She clearly chose not to live in self-pity…and today I choose to forgive and move forward!! I want to be a woman who radiates joy. When satan dials my number again, I think I’ll ask Jesus if he’ll take that call for me…;-)

    I’m so grateful for your ministry to young woman…and those of us who
    aren’t so young anymore. Wish I had you as a mentor when I was a
    young girl! I have two grandaughters who are now grown, and away at college. When they were small, we used to sit on our front porch, and have a little Bible study together each morning. Please remember them in prayer…..that they would find their identity in Him. Thank you!

  13. Laurie, thank you so much for your message. I will never forget a conversation I had with my pastor’s wife about 12 years ago. My husband and I had just started going to this particular church which is now our family and has been for 13 years. My son was about 1 at the time, a little tiny boy diagnosed with cerebral palsy, we hadn’t found out until he was 9 weeks old. From 9 weeks to 1 year I walked in a cloud of self-pity but had no idea that was what I was doing. I loved the Lord and my husband and I married with one of the purposes being that we would be vibrant, victorious, conquering-it-all for the Lord and in the Lord couple. Well, 2 years later we have our son 2 months early and born at only 1 lb, we were confused and terrified. Fastforwarding a year, I sat down with this woman who I barely knew and she told me something that absolutely changed my life, she told me the one thing I had to let go of was SELF-PITY; at first I was offended, I’m not feeling sorry for myself! I thought, I’m just a poor christian woman who has been given a very unfair situation and I don’t know what to do next. Well after praying about it, I knew she was right and I began what would take years to do in getting rid of the self-pity. My son is 13 years old and we have gone through it, like you wouldn’t believe, and every day I still have to remind myself that self-pity is an enemy and to not let it creep in. The moment I made that decision to let go of self-pity and repent, my faith was restored, my strength renewed and my dreams in God are bigger, I also began to grow spiritually. Self- pity is very deceptive because usually those who struggle with it have no idea that is what they are struggling with. Thank you so much for reminding me of these valuable lessons.

  14. Right on Laurie. Self pity is like a ball & chain hanging around your ankle. As I witness to people & go back in my life to share things that have happened to me, most times, the first response I get is, “”NO WAY””. And then, ” but you seem so happy & “”normal””. Well…. Thank You Lord, at that point I can “laugh”, (not at them but for joy),!!! Because after searching out His Word & reaching out to Godly women I learned to give “”self”” over to a very loving God. Oooooooweeeeee & Glooooo-ry to our God!!!! There are some precious women in my life right now that I SO want the Joy for them. So as you keep P-reaching out I’m praying for this series to be the one that will LIFT them up & out!!!!!!! Im passing it on & Looking forward to your 4 week bible study coming up soon.

  15. Thank you Ms.Laurie! I heard you at Feminar a few years ago and then this morning I came across your email. I have been studying the Excellent Wife book by Martha Peace and she goes into self-pity and sorrow in depth.It is an insightful yet painful study ..Hurts so good to have the light of God’s word expose your sin so we can repent! Long story short, My husband was saved a year ago and we have gone through alot of glorious changes. There was also secret sin exposed. I am tempted to focus on the offense as we rebuild trust and I am fighting so very hard for joy right now! Thank you for your encouragement..I’ll be back..you are a jewel!! I am from Norman, OK.

    Thank you for front porch Friday. It is hard
    not to feel self pity this week as I wait for
    news on abnormal protein in my blood test. I have to confess I do feel some self pity why me Lord?
    I know his plan for my life is perfect just one
    Day at a time.

  20. Another great message thanks so much. In regards to Satan calling I have also heard Joyce Myer say when Satan comes knocking at the door just call out Jesus to please get the door. I have also began trying to live more in the present as I felt the Lord prompted that message at Christmas, enjoy today for that is why it is the present-a gift from above.

    I am not real sure how I came upon your website. Just doing a little surfing. I gave up TV for Lent. But I am glad I did. Thank you for your ministry. I will be sitting on the porch with you over the next few weeks. My heart’s desire is to give God glory but my reality betrays me. I look forward to your encouragement to turn to God & His word.

    I am a West Virginia girl. I love Front Porch Friday. I have been there on the self pity. Coming from a broken home helps to say poor me. I agree there is no joy there and you go to the party alone. God has helped me over the years to see that He uses my life to help me be what He wants me to be. I see how He has orchestrated these things to guide me. I am so thankful that He asked me to receive His gift of salvation. I am so thankful to be his child not perfect but forgiven. Hallelujah!!! Keep up the Front Porch Friday and watching these teachings is like being with you. They help to ignite the fire within me for the Lord.

  24. Laurie: I am from Nova Scotia, Canada. Saw you for the first time on Life Today with James and Betty. I just viewed the Self-pity talk and felt convicted. I was hurt real bad in the last two years by many people I trusted in probably too much. I lost my joy and need desperately to get it back. Thank you, I believe you have just showed me how to do that. The first person I have to forgive is myself because I made a lot of mistakes which led to the big hurt. I also trusted in people more than in God.

  26. Thank you Laurie for this segment. Boy did this hit home. I am now chainsawing my “Pitty/Victim” pendant from my neck!! I keep praying for God’s forgiveness and then I start to feel pretty good about myself. A few days later, the “Poor Pitty Self” starts again. Oh, how Satan likes to make house calls!! and he doesn’t get tired. Thank, thank you. I’m sitting here during my lunch hour and just finished listening to your message. You are a God send! Perfect message during this time of Lent.
