The evidence of God showed up on my back porch last week. It happened right after I opened the door to go outside. And when I saw it, I was absolutely stunned. I felt like wide-eyed Dorothy in that scene from The Wizard of Oz when she opened the door of her tiny, black-and-white Kansas house and saw the great, big, full-color land of Oz.
So naturally, I did what any good blogger would do . . .
I grabbed my camera and took a picture for you!
Now remember, appearances can be deceiving. Do not let this ordinary tomato plant fool you, because what you are about to see is the evidence of God…
See that? See that green globe hanging on that stem? No, that’s not just a tomato. That’s the evidence of God.
And Friday wasn’t the first time I’ve seen that tomato. I’ve been watching it grow for a few weeks now. Friday was, however, the first time I saw that tomato for what it really is: the evidence of God. And I’ve even got a picture to prove that…
This is the passage I read Friday morning – before I went outside on my back porch. As you can see, it’s from the Book of Acts, and you can even see my messy notes in the margins. But these are the words I really want you to see:
Acts 14:16-17 (NLT)
16 In the past [God] permitted all the nations to go their own ways,
17 but he never left them without evidence of himself and his goodness. For instance, he sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts.
Every nation and generation that has ever lived upon the face of the earth has witnessed the evidence of God and His goodness. According to Acts 14:17, it’s in the rain that pours down from heaven. It’s in the crops and food we eat (like my tomatoes – or even the boxes of cereal in your pantry). Even the everyday joys we experience in this life testify to the evidence of God.
Precious sister, today is Monday – probably not your favorite day of the week. But Acts 14:17 can be the door that transforms your black-and-white Monday into a full-color encounter with the evidence of God this week. So follow Dorothy’s lead. Open the door. And I promise you, the evidence of God will be more obvious to you than a yellow brick road.
Looking with you for His evidence everywhere everyday this week . . .
Your sister,
