“Jesus looked at them intently and said, ‘Humanly speaking, it is impossible, but with God everything is possible.” Matt. 19:26
Yesterday was one long series of pinch-me moments. It was one of those days when the words “exceedingly, abundantly beyond all we could ever ask or think” (Eph. 3:20) replayed over and over in my head like an endless loop. Why? Because yesterday, God did the impossible at my church: Sagemont Church in Houston, Texas.
Yesterday, our church family moved in to a beautiful new $26,000,000 worship center debt-free!
Debt-free in a down economy.
Debt-free in the midst of massive job cuts (including many in our church who worked for NASA).
Debt-free in a world where bank financing and interest payments for projects like this are standard operating procedure.
For the past six years, our godly, visionary pastor, Dr. John Morgan, has led our church to pray, plan, wait, and give toward this enormous project. And yesterday, God allowed us to see our faith become sight. It was a high and holy, to-God-be-the-glory, hallelujah day for Sagemont Church.
But in the afterglow of yesterday’s monumental move-in, I have one question: Why are we are so surprised when God does the impossible?
Because after all, the impossible is what God does best. Like, for instance, when:
- He enabled two 90-somethings, Abraham and Sarah, to have a son.
- He enabled Moses to part the Red Sea, save the Israelites, and defeat the Egyptian army.
- He enabled the sound of Israel’s trumpets to take down Jericho’s wall.
- He enabled a single stone to defeat a giant.
- He enabled a virgin to bring forth a Son to save sinners like you and me.
What impossible dream is God calling you to believe today? What impossible person have you been praying for year after year after year? What impossible situation do you go to bed thinking about and face each morning?
It’s Monday, precious sister, and the impossible looms before you this week. But speaking for all of your brothers and sisters at Sagemont Church in Houston, I want to encourage you today with all confidence that with God, all things – ALL things – are possible.
Basking in the glory of the God of the impossible, your sister,
