This is the face of the woman I love more than any other woman on the face of the earth: my mother, Julia McKay.
This is also the face of the woman who is currently at the top of my prayer list, and I’m writing to plead for your prayers for her, too.
For the past five months, Mother has had a severe case of shingles. Shinges so bad that your jaw would drop and your eyes would fill with tears if you saw them (which is exactly how seeing them affected me). Shingles so bad that the pain has completely debilitated her days and robbed her sleep at night.
Mother’s doctors are absolutely baffled. They’ve tried all of the usual remedies to no avail. And when they finally found a pain medication that significantly relieved her pain, the side effects of that drug caused her to lose her sight in one eye. This may or may not be a temporary condition.
This week, Mother has an appointment with a specialist, and this is where you come in. Would you please add my mother to your prayer list? Would you ask God to give this new doctor wisdom to help her? And most of all, would you please pray for my mother’s healing?
Mother is 77 years old, and she’s the primary caretaker for her 94-year-old mother (who lives in her own home right behind my mother’s house). My daddy has been wonderful during mother’s illness, but it’s taken a toll on him, too. He hurts for her, and it’s very hard for him to see her in so much pain.
Mother is a very strong Christian, and I know she is drawing on God’s grace daily. But she’s exhausted in every way possible. She needs your prayers. And so does my daddy. So, thank you for praying.
There’s one more thing I want to ask you to do: get a shingles shot. Yes, I know, the immunization is expensive. But trust me, if you could see my mother’s shingles, you’d realize that it’s worth every, single penny.
Bless you, precious sister, for allowing me to share my heart with you. Your intercession for my sweet mother means more than you’ll ever know to me. I’ll keep you posted about her in the coming days.
