It’s crunch time here at Priority Ministries, and I have a confession to make: I’m a stress ball. In just a few weeks, we will release my new Bible study, Are You a Disciple? But until then, there are soooo many final details and tasks to do. Of course, I’ve been praying and praying and praying . . . but the stress keeps building and building and building.
Finally, on Wednesday night, I realized what God wanted me to do with all of my stress: make a play date with my hubby and best friend, Bill!
Thursday was Bill’s day off, so I took the day off from my Are You a Disciple? to dos, too. At 9:30 we hopped in the car and headed out for our play date. First stop, one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had in my life at The Breakfast Klub in Houston.
There is always line out the door at this very popular Houston eatery, but the line goes fast and the wait is so worth it. Plus, when we got to the door, we were greeted by Ms. Mary:
As the official greeter of the Breakfast Klub, Ms. Mary assured us, “We’re going to show you some love in just a few minutes with a delicious breakfast.” And show us the love they did indeed!
Love in a giant cup of coffee!
Love with waffle and wings — a combo I’ve never had before which made me question WHY HAVE I NEVER HAD THIS BEFORE??? It was heaven on a plate. With food as soulful and delicious as this in your mouth, who could possibly be stressed? Not me! The play date was definitely working.
The next stop on our play date was the Hermann Park Centennial Gardens, Houston’s newest park. Bill and I love gardening, nature, and beauty, and I knew we would love it. This is the view that greeted us:
It was 95 degrees, but the fountains and the waterfall (on the mount at the back of the garden) beckoned us to forget the heat and enjoy the beautiful setting . . . which we mostly did, but it WAS hot. Still, just like waiting in line at The Breakfast Klub, it was worth it. Here’s why:
The lush pathways . . .
The welcome shade from gorgeous trees . . .
The view from on top of the waterfall mount! It was spectacular (as was the breeze from that height).
It was only a short, sweet play date, but God knew I needed it. And He knows you do, too. Just look He says in His Word:
“So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.” Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 NLT
Praying. It’s always the right thing to do. But I had forgotten that playing is a gift from God, too. Have you? If so, then may I suggest that you schedule a play date? Soon.
And if possible, include chicken and waffles.
