The Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. It’s the latest craze in Christmas celebrations (kinda makes you wish you hadn’t donated that hideous pea-green cardigan with the appliqued Rudolph and battery-operated shiny nose to Goodwill, huh?).
Apparently, ugly sweaters are “in” this Christmas. But in an effort to help you dress your very best this year, take a look at what NOT to wear:
What Not to Wear This Christmas
1) Your old nature. More unsightly than the ugliest Christmas sweater, believe it or not, it’s what you used to wear all the time before you were a Christian (for a look back at the old you, see Col. 3:5-9). This Christmas, make sure your friends and family see you sporting the new you.
“Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.” Col. 3:10 NLT
2) Meanness and all of its sinful synonyms such as anger, arrogance, rudeness, and impatience to name a few. Although most of the masses are dressing down and wearing these attitudes everywhere (possibly even some of your friends and relatives this weekend), do not follow this trend. Dress up instead with the spiritually stylish attributes of Colossians 3:12.
“Clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Col. 3:12 NLT
3) Unforgiveness. Even if Stacy and Clinton give you $5000, take you shopping for a new wardrobe, and throw in a total hair and make-up makeover, you still won’t be free from the pain of your past (or present) until you get rid of you closet full of unforgiveness. C’mon, it’s Christmas. Forgive. And just like on What Not to Wear, don’t be surprised if your friends and family say how great you look when you walk into the room this weekend. Forgiveness can take years off of your face.
“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” Col. 3:13 NLT
4) Lack of love. Like the perfect accessories (cute earrings, a cool scarf, a flattering belt) pull an entire outfit together, love brings people together. And not just any ol’ kind of love. Agape love. Unconditional, sacrificial love. It’s the kind of love Jesus wore . . . and still wears today. Wear that same love at Christmas, and watch as it draws you closer to the ones you love.
“Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” Col. 3:14 NLT
Girl, you don’t need a personal stylist to choose your wardrobe and accessories this weekend. Just be sure to stay in style with God’s Word . . . and stay away from ugly Christmas sweaters. They may be “in,” but they’re still ugly.
Love to you this Christmas, your sister,
